As for now, visitors can go through automatic immigration check-in at airports in Vietnam (Autogate)

Five international airports in Vietnam, namely Da Nang, Noi Bai, Cam Ranh, Tan Son Nhat, and Phu Quoc International airport, have officially begun using the automatic entry system (Autogate).

The Autogate application will help to expedite immigration procedures, decrease the number of employees working at airport security desks, and improve security measures all at the same time.

Vietnamese nationals with valid passports will be the only ones who can use Autogate during the initial phase of operation. Namely, all Vietnamese citizens who arrive with chip-based passports can use the system. Passengers without these types of passports will be directed to register at the airport, which takes about four minutes and involves scanning their passports, fingerprints, and other biometric and facial identification data.

About the process, there are two layers in the Autogate area. Passengers scan their boarding passes and passports in the first layer. The passport won't need to be stamped by a customs official because face recognition and fingerprint scanning will take place after the initial scan is successful. As a result, as long as the passport is still valid, travelers only need to register for a permit once for all subsequent entry and exit occasions.

As for foreign travelers, the Autogate has not yet been implemented, but it will be if they depart with valid residence cards or temporary residence cards issued by authorized Vietnam government agencies.

In conclusion, Autogate has made traveling through airports in Vietnam much easier and efficient for visitors. This new technology is a welcome addition to the Vietnamese airport experience, and it is sure to benefit many travelers in the years to come.
