Chinese Travelers: Do You Need a Visa for Vietnam During China’s National Day Holiday?

Last update: Thursday October 02, 2025

Every year, China’s National Day Holiday — also known as Golden Week (黄金周) — gives millions of people a chance to relax, travel, and enjoy a well-deserved break. In 2025, Golden Week is expected to spark another massive travel wave, with many Chinese citizens looking to explore exciting international destinations.

If you’re among those planning a trip abroad during this period, Vietnam is a perfect nearby option. But before you book your flights or plan your itinerary, here’s the key question: Do Chinese citizens need a visa to travel to Vietnam during Golden Week 2025?

Let’s break down your visa options and everything else you need to know to ensure a smooth and stress-free holiday.

Why Travel to Vietnam During Golden Week?

Golden Week is one of China’s longest and most anticipated public holidays, making it the perfect time to travel abroad and unwind. Vietnam is a top pick for many Chinese travelers because it offers:

  • Close proximity to China: Just a short flight from China to Vietnam.
  • World-famous cuisine: Savor dishes like Phở, Bánh mì, fresh seafood, and tropical fruits.
  • Diverse landscapes: From UNESCO heritage towns and ancient temples to sunny beaches and mountain retreats.
  • Affordable travel: Vietnam offers excellent value for both luxury and budget travelers.

Do Chinese Citizens Need a Visa for Vietnam?

Yes. All Chinese passport holders must apply for a valid Vietnam visa before entering the country. Fortunately, you have two easy options, both of which can be applied for online through Vietnam-Immi.org.

Option 1: Vietnam E-Visa

The Vietnam E-Visa is a single- or multiple-entry visa, valid for up to 90 days depending on your travel plan.

Key Features:

  • 100% online application

  • Approval delivered via email (PDF format)

Please note that Chinese passports will require the paperworks at the airport.

To ensure a smooth process, kindly prepare the following documents to present to the immigration officers at the landing visa counters:

* Your EVisa

* Your original passport, which should be valid for international travel.

*Two passport-sized pictures (4x6 cm size, with white background, front view, bare head, without sunglasses (one on the form and the other separate))

* The Entry and Exit form (NA1, the word form attached), which you can fill out beforehand to save time at the airport.

You will find the landing visa counters clearly marked within the international arrival halls at all major Vietnamese airports.

Option 2: Vietnam Visa on Arrival (Approval Letter)

The Visa on Arrival (VOA) offers the same validity and flexibility as the E-visa (including up to 90 days with single or multiple entries).

However, VOA requires you to obtain a pre-approval letter before departure. Once you arrive at any international airport in Vietnam, you will present this letter and receive your visa stamp.

Important Note:
A government stamping fee of 25 USD/person must be paid at the arrival airport.
