Vietnam Public Holidays

During the holidays, the Immigration Department will temporarily suspend the acceptance and processing of visa applications. Plan your visa application schedule accordingly to avoid additional costs or delays in receiving your visa as expected.

Fixed dates vs. moving dates

Two of Vietnam's seven holidays follow the lunar calendar and land on a different day every year — those are the ones travelers most often miss when planning around a Gregorian calendar. The other five are anchored to the same date annually, which makes them easy to build into a booking timeline in advance.

Same date every year:

New Year's Day (Jan 1), Reunification Day (Apr 30), Labor Day (May 1), National Day (Sep 2), Vietnamese Cultural Day (Nov 24).

Shifts with the lunar calendar:

Tết (Lunar New Year) and Hùng Kings' Commemoration Day — both need to be looked up year by year, which is exactly what the table above does for you.

What actually stops during a holiday

A public holiday in Vietnam doesn't pause the country evenly. Immigration counters, notary offices, and bank branches close in full — no counter service, no in-person document requests, no walk-in appeals. Hotels, restaurants, and tour operators generally keep running as normal, with one exception: during Tết, a large share of privately-run businesses close their doors for several days regardless of official status, so "open" on paper doesn't always mean staffed.
