Vietnam Visa Processing Time: How Long Does It Really Take?

Last Updated: Monday, August 17, 2026

It’s exciting to plan a trip to Vietnam, but if you wait too long to get your visa, you could be in for some unnecessary stress. If you are coming for a holiday, a business trip or a longer stay, knowing the processing time will allow you to plan with confidence.

For travelers who are applying for a Vietnam tourist visa, it’s especially important to know the expected processing time when flights and accommodation are already booked.

Understanding Vietnam E-Visa Processing Time

How long does a Vietnam e-visa take?

How long does it take for a Vietnam e-visa is one of the most asked questions asked by travelers.

The processing time of Vietnam e-visa depends on the processing option you choose, information of application, government processing schedules, weekends and public holidays.

Standard applications can take several working days and if available, urgent services can process faster. Travelers should also be aware that wrong passport details, unsuitable photos or incomplete information may cause delays.

What can affect your visa processing time?

Several things can affect how long it will take to get your visa:

🛂 Passport information is incorrect – You will need to correct even the smallest mistake.

📸 passport photo issues – If your photo is not up to standard, it can delay processing.

📅 Weekends and public holidays – Government processing may not run on non-working days.

📧 Missing information – Missing or inconsistent information can delay an application.

⏰ Last-minute applications – If you apply close to your flight departure, you will have less time to fix any unexpected issues.

This is why travelers should start the visa application process sooner than the day before departure.

How Early Should I Apply for a Vietnam Visa?

Give yourself enough time

What is the best time to apply for a Vietnam visa?

The best advice for most travelers is to apply 1-2 weeks before you leave at the least. This gives you additional time to go over your application, fix errors and handle unforeseen delays .

There is little to be gained by leaving it to the last minute if you know the dates on which you are traveling.

Please check carefully before submitting your application:

✈️ Date of entry intended

🛂 Passport number and personal details

📸 Passport photo specifications

🛬 Intended port of entry

📧 E-mail address to get your visa

A few minutes spent verifying these details will save you unnecessary headaches down the road.
