Instructions on how to apply for a passport online

Online passport is a type of passport issued according to the online registration procedure on the National Public Service Portal or the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security. Citizens can go through the entire process of issuing passports online, from filing declarations, submitting documents, taking photos, paying fees to receiving passports.

An online passport has the following advantages:

Who can get a passport online?

According to the Immigration Department, those who apply to make an ordinary passport online at home are Vietnamese citizens who fully meet the following conditions:

•  Having a valid 12-digit citizen identity card (with or without electronic chip);
•  Registered account on the National Public Service Portal
•  Ability to pay fees online.

To make a passport online, people need to prepare the following documents, as below:

• Declaration of application for a passport in form X01.
• 04 new photos, size 4x6 cm, face straight, head without hat, white background.
• A copy of the identity document (identity card or citizen identification card).

After preparing all documents, people take the following steps to apply for a passport online:

1. Access the National Public Service Portal or the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security.

2. Log in to your account. If you don't have an account, you'll need to sign up for one according to the instructions.

3. Select the service "Issuance of ordinary passport".

4. Submit a passport application form online.

5. Upload a portrait and passport photo (if applicable).

6. Select the application method.

7. Choose the form of payment of the passport issuance fee.

8. Check the information and confirm the application.

Step 1: Access the National Public Service Portal or the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security

Step 2: Sign in to your account

If you already have an account on the National Public Service Portal or the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security, you can log in with that account.

If you don't have an account yet, you need to register one according to the instructions.

Step 3: Select the service "Issuance of ordinary passport"

At the homepage of the National Public Service Portal or the Public Service Portal of the Ministry of Public Security, you select the service "Issuance of ordinary passport".

Step 4: Submit a passport application form online

You need to fully and accurately declare the information on the passport application form.

Step 5: Upload a portrait and passport photo (if applicable)

You need to upload a portrait photo and passport photo (if applicable).

Step 6: Choose your application method

You can choose to apply in person at the competent authority or apply by mail.

Step 7: Choose a form of payment for passport issuance fee

You can choose to pay the passport issuance fee as online payment or payment upon receipt of your passport.

Step 8: Check the information and confirm the application

You need to check the information you have declared and confirm the application.

After confirming your application, you will receive your application code. You need to save your profile ID to track the status of your case.

• Portrait and passport photos must meet the following requirements:

o Portraits:

        - Size 4x6 cm, face straight, head bare, white background.

        - Photos taken within 6 months from the date of application.

o Passport photo:

        - Size 4x6 cm, face straight, head bare, white background.

        - Photo taken on a flat background, without blur, blur, black border.

After confirming your application, you will receive your application code. You need to save your profile ID to track the status of your case.

Information about the status of your case will be sent to your email. Once the application is processed, you can pick up your passport at the competent authority or by post.
